I wanted to just do the absolute simplest thing I could think of.

A crappy, but established service will still hold on to its customers because people don't want to go through the upheaval of changing

but I remember being uncompromising that I had my own things to take care of, and wouldn't run behind them just to be included.

It speaks volumes that do be able to do good work, you have to find tricks and hacks to get around the obstacle of the expectations your employer has of you.
